Selecting the Best Printer

computer & technologyThe variety of printers available for purchase can be overwhelming. It takes a bit of knowledge to be able to make a good choice for your needs.

Of course, before you begin shopping you need to have in mind what your particular needs are. How will you use your printer? Will you be doing big print jobs or mainly small documents? Will you be using your printer on a daily basis or less frequently? Do you want you printer for printer documents or will you do a lot of photo printing?

The two categories that printers fall into are inkjet and laser. Inkjet printers are usually a bit cheaper. However the price of laser printers has come down recently.

Though laser printers have a higher sticker price, if you will be doing a lot of printing you may find it is the most cost effective way to go. Laster printers use toner instead of ink cartridges. The toner itself is a bit more than ink cartridges but they last a lot longer. Also laser printers print several times faster than inkjet printers so for large print jobs it is the better choice.

There are several models of inkjet printers that range in price from inexpensive to quite costly. If you are looking for a basic printer for small print jobs a simple inkjet printer will most likely be the best choice.

If photo printing is included in your print needs an inkjet printer is definitely your printer of choice. Most printers designed for photo printing are inkjet printers.

All-in-one printers are also an option if you are looking for scanning or copying capability. These printers combine several functions with only one machine. This can be more convenient than having a different machine for each need.

The best choice will come with a good evaluation of what your needs are. This will enable you to select a printer that meets those needs without paying for a lot of extras that are useless for you.
